Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, also known as PHYSIATRY, is a specialty in modern medicine that adds quality of life to patient care. Rehabilitation is the combined and coordinated use of medical, social, educational and vocational measures for training and re-training an individual to the highest possible level of functional ability. Rehabilitation in our institute works at three levels, namely outpatient services, inpatient services and cross consultations for patients who had undergone orthopedic, neuro surgery, general surgery or cardiac interventions or any patient with rehabilitation needs who is admitted under other departments.

The department is keen in research activities and works in close collaboration with JCMR. We provides internship program and external posting for physiotherapy students.
Here, patients with any neurological deficits like spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, motor neuron diseases, parkinsonism or other neuro degenerative disorders, peripheral nerve palsies, children with cerebral palsy, autism or developmental disorders can be trained to their maximum functional ability The unit is equipped with world class facilities for ambulation and gait training, upper limb and hand function training, activities of daily life re-training, electrical stimulation for nerve palsies, cardio-pulmonary endurance training, neuro developmental therapy, biofeedback therapy and mirror therapy.
The unit deals with rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal injuries like ligament sprain, strain, amputations, joint pains, stiffness, sports injury and bringing back to them to their previous life. This is done with modalities like shortwave diathermy, Interferential therapy, ultrasound diathermy, LASER, paraffin wax bath, ambulatory aids, orthoses and assisitve devices, traction, continuous passive motion and structured and individualized exercise program.
