Overview

Emergency Medicine (EM) gained recognition as a medical specialty in the United States in 1979 and in India in 2009 by the Medical Council of India (MCI). By 2014, 28 medical colleges in India had established academic departments of EM as permitted by the MCI.

EM is a distinctive specialty that equips physicians with surgical and medical skills to manage urgent, emergent, and acute conditions across all demographics and physiological states.

At Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute, the Department of Emergency Medicine trains two postgraduates annually in MD Emergency Medicine, adhering to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and MCI guidelines. With 40 beds, the department serves 48,000 patients annually, admitting an average of 130 patients daily.
