Overview

The Psychiatry Department at Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute, established in 2003, offers comprehensive psychiatric care and services. With a capacity for 35 inpatients and additional payward rooms for approximately 10 patients, we cater to various diagnostic categories, including acute psychotic reactions and substance abuse disorders.

Operating outpatient services six days a week, we attend to an average of 50 patients daily. Special follow-up clinics for chronic schizophrenics on clozapine treatment and mood disorder patients on lithium prophylaxis are conducted regularly.

Our treatment modalities encompass drug therapy, electroconvulsive treatment, psychotherapeutic interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychosocial support. Collaborating closely with the Clinical Psychology section, we also offer supportive counseling services through the "Hope Centre."

We handle a significant volume of consultation-liaison psychiatry cases, assessing an average of eight patients daily from various departments, including super specialty departments.

In addition to clinical services, we actively engage in teaching and academic programs for MBBS students, house surgeons, B.Sc. nursing students, and students from other institutions. Clinical psychology and social work/sociology students undergo clinical attachment for varying durations.

Extending our services beyond the college campus, we conduct regular visits to a rehabilitation center for chronic schizophrenics and TIMHANS for psychiatric facilities. Our research focuses on mood disorders, schizophrenia, alcohol dependence, and the interplay between mood disorders, personality disorders, alcoholism, and substance abuse. We also provide oxygen therapy for alcohol-dependent patients.

In summary, our department is committed to delivering high-quality psychiatric care, advancing research, and educating future healthcare professionals in the field of psychiatry.
